Snowing again in Texas

In case you live under a rock and this blog is your only access to news...it snowed last night. Austin looks good under snow.

Crazy.
We again have been alerted to possible rolling black outs.  So we are on electricity conservation mode.  Gotta keep the Karma clean.  In my house that means all the lights are off, the heat is on 71 and the television is background noise.  No laundry...wouldn't want to be all braggy with the electricity.

Mom stayed home.  Apparently she did not want to battle the ice and snow for her exciting job working for the FBI.  She has gotten a ton of napping...she is on energy conservation mode too.  Think the lack of lights inspired her.
Snoop is inspired too by the snow.  He is pretty sure it is his job to eat it.  We all have callings.  Wonder what his will be when this stuff is gone next week?

Truths that have to be accepted...but suck

Was busy stumbling today.  It is what we do when avoiding doing the laundry? (Mission successful.)

Not looking for anything life changing..I found this treasure.  An article on 'Global One TV' called the Eight (harsh) Truths That Will Improve Your Life that tells it like it is. Don't you wish you had known these in your twenties. Each of these I have had to learn over and again...I'm not so quick on life lessons.

1.  Friends come and go.  I learned this tough lesson in middle school when my sister was at her sickest.  A good friend, my only friend at the time, decided that she would sit somewhere else at lunch and we were alone.  It was one of the saddest loneliest times of my life.  A hard lesson indeed.

2. You won't always get what you want. I have learned this on a regular basis since birth.  This was not as jarring as the other lessons.  It just was part of growing up.  Sometimes the thing you work toward you won't get.  It is okay.

3. Many people will love you but many will not. After the incident (see number 1) I was always surprised when people liked me.  Many more examples of the contrary.

4. Nobody can transform your life like you can.  In the Spring of my 8th grade year my parents were going through some marriage struggles...part of having a child that is sick.  There had been a huge storm.  One of the ten tree in the back yard was completely destroyed.  The sad thing laid in the yard, it was the external representation of the wreck we were on the inside.  I had been suffering a huge depression and my mother had enough of it.  She busted into my room, "You are the only one that can fix this."  She was out. It was like a light bulb went on, I felt empowered.  I looked around for the first thing that would be mine to accomplish...the backyard.  I grabbed a saw and the and clippers and set to work.  In a ridiculous moment of power I single-handedly chopped that mess into bits.  Stirred those bits into the compost and felt incredible. Mom was right...I control my own transformation.

5. Rain will sometimes come and cancel play.  In my case it is work will cancel play.  I think I have accepted this to the be rule not the occasional exception.

6. There may be no tomorrow. This one didn't hit me till my Grandmother died.  It is all the more reason to be authentic to who you are and let those around you know what they mean to you.

7. Someone else will always have more.  Again always accepted at my house.  Not just accepted but made into a fun past time.  After a long day of writing I do love pursing the internet and oogleing all the amazing things that people have wishing and dreaming.  Just makes it fun.

8. You are going to fail. I hate this lesson.  I have had to learn it way too many times. Some people weren't meant to understand Implied Economics and all those implied calculus equations.  I don't get regular calculus...implied, are you kidding me?  But it is very true when you fail it is the time of greatest growth and learning.  Let me just say...I have done a ton of learning.

What lessons do you think were left off the list?  Would love to learn your lessons.

Dogs, Snow and Mr. Toy

Mr. Toy has made a reappearance in the back yard.  I think he summered up North and returned with the snow.  Snoop is in love.  This small three inches of green turns 70 pounds of Snoop into a lightening quick mess.

Three days ago, he discovered it squeaks.  Startled him so much that Mr. Toy popped right out of his mouth and flew behind the sofa.  I came out of bedroom to find Machie on his hind legs leaning against the wall looking down and fishing with one paw behind the sofa.  Too bad he doesn't have opposable thumbs.  I do, and saved the day.  It is what I live for.

Machie could care less about the stupid Mr. Toy.  However, he loses his mind when you get the "football" out.  I know it isn't a football. But they love to kick it so what are you going to do?
Raven tries to take it.  She is the smallest...but she bites feet.  Smart, when the big boys try to push you around bite their feet.  Raven, dog and career coach.

Crunch no more

I am by no means a work out maven.  Even at my best have never been compared to Jillian...shocking I know.

I do have my moments where everyone at the gym knows my name...and not because I committed any embarrassing gym no no.  There have been summers when I worked out for three to four hours a day...and I loved it.  (I know...sicko right?)

Those summers unfortunately have been followed by chubby winters.  Balance is a constant struggle for me.  I love extremes they are way more comfortable.  (Maybe that is why I like the weather we have been having.)

I have been trying to back into my gym binge mode.  Not there yet...I am closer to the 'great now I'm sweaty and have to take another shower' mode.  I have been shlepping my friend with me to the gym.  She likes all the things I hate...cardio, steps...she is sick for sure.  I make her do all the things I love arms, back, and stomach.

Today she posted an article, No more Crunches, on my facebook page.  Pretty sure she is trying to send me a message. She does tend to toot when we crunch...I may be willing to let that exercise go.

Frozen Solitude

Another day locked into this icy prison.

Today there is rumor of blackouts.  So far so good.  All electrical items are working.  In an effort to act with caution, and fearful of any sketchy karma we are on minimal electricity usage.

With the drapes open it looks like the sun is living in the backyard.  The light reflects off every speckle of frozen precipitation.  Who needs light bulbs?

Now what to do with another day off work?

Probably write.
It tried to melt but gave up.

Might repeatedly check to see if we will be out of school for the week.  (OCD is tough.)  Maybe take some pictures.  Love having so many choices.

The Facebook Cold Shoulder

Have you ever waved and had it not returned?

Can you reach out and be ignored?

When your asked for help and did they say no?

How many times can you say "Hello" and never hear it yourself?

How long can you wait before you have to let go?

Snow days

Photo souce

I love snow days in North Texas.

Everything shuts down.  Texans stock up and lock themselves in doors.

We might be bears.

No one like to drive on ice.

Drive nice today.
