Harbingers of hope

"Many of the greatest achievements of the world were accomplished by tired and discouraged men who kept on working."

I love this quote...it speaks to my tired hardworking soul.  We all need hope.  It is what gets us through those days everyone is pulling you in different directions and no one is happy with your effort. It is what yanks us from the edge when we feel pushed to the last corner of our limits. We all have to go through the fire. Break ups, loss, injury sadness that is so complete we wonder if there is any way out is guaranteed for each of us at some point.  The only difference is how we cope with it.

In the last 18 months I have been to 5 funerals for those starting their lives and those at the end of a long well lived life. I have 4 of my close friends have gone through or are in the middle of going through separations.  I feel like the sadness has scraped by me.  Nicking me but leaving me whole as I watch those I care about suffer.  I am not sure which is worse.  As a writer I watch and note the different types of grace and hope that carry my strong friends through this time of fire in their lives.  I know I have been through fire and that I will see more it is life.  It is the only thing in life we can truly depend on, but we can also depend on the fact that we will make it.  Sometimes that doesn't feel like enough, but on many days that is all we get.

I find hope in tiny faces, in well placed words, in sunny days with green grass and chirping birds.  It is everywhere.

Where do you find hope?

  1. I find hope in laughter and smiles, in budding flowers, sunshine and rainbows, and clouds (even if they are slow-moving I know the clouds will change eventually and things in life pass by with time, too.)

  9. This is such a moving post. As someone who is facing the reality of a friend of mine being unable to make it much longer, I need to hear about where people find hope. The world seems so cruel sometimes, and I find myself actively looking and creating things to laugh about.
